DESCRIPTION: Black strapless silk satin evening dress
For Fall 1951 Sophie showed her collection at a ball held on the second floor of Saks. In their review the New York Times hailed the collection as “glamorous” and heralded Gimbel’s “extravagant mode for evening”. One evening dress in particular was singled out for distinction thusly: “Giving the illusion of fullness to the slim skirt of a black satin ensemble was a flying panel at one side.” They were perhaps referring to this elegant creation above.
