AAS Alums Make Finalists for the Woolmark Prize
The finalists for the next edition of the International Woolmark Prize (IWP) have been determined. We would like to congratulate Parsons AAS Fashion Design alums Chris Gelinas and Tanya Taylor, two of the five USA nominees for the prize in womenswear!
The USA regional awards will take place in New York on July 21, 2015 and the finalists are asked to show sketches for a Merino wool capsule collection.
This year, Woolmark is adding The British Isles as the sixth region in the competition. That regional award event will take place in London, while the other regional award events will be held in New York (for Team USA), Antwerp, Dubai, Shanghai, and Sydney. Out of these, 12 finalists will be selected for the International Prize, and each will receive AUD50,00, roughly USD $40,000, towards their next collection.
There will also be an event for the six menswear finalists during Pitti Uomo in Florence next January, with a similar event for the womenswear finalists in New York the following month.
The two final winners will receive an additional AUD100,000, or roughly USD $80,000, towards fabric sourcing and marketing of their collections.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America serves as Woolmark’s official nominating body in the U.S.
Most recent International Woolmark Prizes were awarded to Marcia Patmos for M. Patmos, and SoF alumni Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School.
