NYFW: Glamour Magazine’s Cat Fashion Concept Store

On February 8th and February 9th, lions and lionesses of the fashion world got their cattitude on for Glamour magazine’s special two-day event.
In celebration of NYFW and the fashion industry’s infatuation with cats, Glamourtransformed the space at 74 Gansevort Street in the Meatpacking district, with the help of CONFETTISYSTEM, into a cat lover’s paradise.
Entrance into the space led directly to an oversized yarn ball and caterers lined up wearing cat masks. The ceiling was strung with glistening gold confetti and the walls were decked with feline inspired magazine editorials. Collaged on another wall were kitty-printed clothing and shoes. But the real stars of the party, and everyone’s Instagram feeds, were the 20-foot-high black cat made completely out of confetti and the equally stunning confetti kitty mannequins wearing “Féline” shirts (perhaps inspired by the recent Céline spin-off tees).
Day one: The first private event was a cat-themed Karaoke party. Designers, editors, bloggers and more packed into the tiny space to sing, drink and meow. Susie Lau of Style Bubble and Phil Oh of Street Peeper introduced the first song, and Garance Doré took a moment to sing a song at the end of the party as The Sartorialist photographed her. The caterers, clad in their extremely tight black tee-shirts, cat masks and gloves walked together as they transported a 10-foot long bendable sushi platter back and forth across the floor, offering guests spicy tuna rolls.
Day two, part one: The only public event in the series offered a range of free kitty inspired manicures and cat eyes from Mac makeup artists. Glamour’s own Ying Chu, who just joined the magazine this week as Executive Beauty Director, was there for meet and greets. By far the most feminine event of the three, throngs of young women ooohed and ahhhed at their manis as other guests tried to take photos with Olivia Palermo.
Day two, part two: The final private event saw CatPower DJing while feline lovers nibbled on fish-shaped cookies, sipped cocktails, and snapped more Instagram photos. Guests were stamped on the hand or arm with one of the event’s hash tags: #nobitches. This time, the caterers worked together to carry a huge vertical pole dangling fish-shaped pretzels. A guy in a cat mask carried a bottle of mustard behind them.
Though the name of the event suggested shopping, there was absolutely nothing for sale at any of the events. But giveaways included Eugenia Kim hats, cat-shaped rings, kitty pins, and American Apparel sweaters.
The Glamour Cat Fashion Concept Store was a purrrfect event in the midst of NYFW.
