Allen Edmonds holds design contest on campus
Allen Edmonds Shoe Corporation (AE) invites BFA Junior and Seniors, and continuing AAS Fashion Design 2nd and 3rd semester students (enrolled in Spring 2012) to participate in a design competition, to reinvent and design the classic American men’s shoe. The young designers will be challenged to design a shoe based on the history of the brand, and leverage the 90th Anniversary of Allen Edmonds.

Entries will be accepted up until 9 am, Monday January 23, 2012. Please deliver all submissions to 5th Floor Reception at our 560 Building attn: Josie Tirado
Kyle Farmer will be available throughout next week from Jan 17- 20 to provide interim feedback and support to you if you’d like to bounce your work off him or have questions about presentation. Please contact Kyle at farmerk@newschool.edu to arrange a meeting time.
The design team at AE will select the top six designs as first round finalists. These six students will participate in a two-day intensive CAD workshop with the Allen Edmonds design team. All six CAD designed sketches will be voted on to narrow the selection down to three, which will then be prototyped in the AE factory. After the three shoes have been prototyped, the final judging process will begin to select the winning shoe for actual production.
The final winning shoe design will be manufactured, in limited quantity and made available for distribution via Allen Edmonds corporate stores, e-commerce site and distributors in the United States. The shoes will be displayed at The Parsons Benefit in May and at a special event that will be held in NYC at an Allen Edmonds store. The top three designers, who have had their shoes prototyped, will also win a cash award. The winning shoe designer will receive a $5,000 award; the second and third place shoe designers will receive $2,500 each.
Submission Requirements:
- Visual research/mood board no larger than 11×17
- A single page outlining your approach to the project.
- Design process minimum two pages
- Two final design illustration with multiple view flats (hand illustration or CAD, your choice)
- Fabric/treatments hardware board
