And the WGSN Winner is……
For the past 2 semesters WGSN (www.wgsn.com) has held a Trend Story Challenge which is conducted within the NY Trend Spotting class here at Parsons AAS Marketing. The students scour NYC looking to uncover the latest trends and must then build a strong styling message with the images they snap and 1-200 words that tie the whole look together. The winner receives not only their Trend Story posted on WGSN’s website, but also an internship, and $1000 scholarship towards their studies.
Spring 10′s winner is Mercedes Drever. According Sally Lohan, West Coast Content Director at WGSN, “Mercedes’ work really stood out and was the hands-down winner for all the WGSN judges. We loved her concept: the consumers’ search for garments that tell a story; that reference personal histories, heritage and craft, while incorporating a contemporary, urban aesthetic. This theme is really on trend and in tune with what we’ve been looking at at WGSN. Mercedes’ well-chosen and carefully composed street shots were another winning element of her work. We also liked the way she wove these images together with magazine tears and catwalk photos, expanding the cultural and fashion references of her story. The contest was not only about
capturing a trend visually with pictures, but also about describing it
in words and Mercedes’ title for her entry really summed up the trend
she was putting across.”
Congratulations Mercedes!!!
